Bodybuilding
Although Rocky was the earliest inspiration I recall that triggered my interest in fitness, there were obviously countless more in the 70’s and 80’s. After all, that’s when Arnold became an icon.
Honestly, my interest in weight training and bodybuilding (sculpting) is much more than just the visual results. It’s a holistic thing for me. The beauty of the human body. The health benefits of weight training with a structured diet protocol. All this led to my fascination with the human body, muscle growth, nutritional science, etc. - and of course, bodybuilding competition.
In 1996, I immersed myself into the nutritional sciences and physique competition world, entering my first competition at 38-years old. I was competing with guys in their late teens and early 20’s. It hadn’t really occurred to me even back then, that I was already “mature” for the sport. But, I did it for the love of the process and the excitement of the journey.
When I did my first competition, I knew I needed to ensure adequate protein intake for the cutting diet. So, I did some research and found Beverly International. Their supplements were basic, old school style. I found their site which had great diets protocols and began purchasing their supplements. They use their No Nonsense Magazine to promote their supplements and the athletes that use them. So, when I received my first shipment from them more than 30 years ago, it came with a copy of their current issue of the No Nonsense Magazine, featuring a number of current athletes at the time. I told myself then that if I ever was able to win a show, I would submit my story. Thirty years later, here it is!
